RP-TNC to Type-N Cables (Coaxial Cable with Type-N to RP-TNC Connectors)
Shop Amphenol RP-TNC to Type-N Coax Cable Assemblies (Coaxial Cables with RP-TNC and N Connectors) at Cables on Demand. The Reverse Polarity TNC (RP-TNC) Connector was developed for use with the in-built set of antennas for 2.4-GHz and 5-GHz Wi-Fi Routers and Access Points. Reverse Polarity connectors were mandated by the FCC at the time to discourage the use of externally mounted "high-gain" antennas connected via coaxial cabling. The combination of elevated antenna mounting and gain levels approaching 20dB could boost a Wi-Fi signal by 100X or more, risking interference to neighboring devices.
To reverse the connector's polarity, the RP-TNC simply reverses the standard connector pin/socket plug/receptacle arrangement of the TNC connector. In a standard TNC, the coax-mounted male "plug" connector (intended to plug into the equipment) will have its center pin visibly protrude outward. Equipment-mounted standard TNC female "receptacle" connectors feature a recessed hole/socket to "mate" with this pin. Reverse Polarity TNC is the opposite, where the male coaxial cable "plug" is the one with the recessed hole/socket and the equipment-mounted female "receptacle" has the protruding pin.
The Type N is popularly used as the built-in female receptacle connector found on indoor/outdoor 50-Ohm antennas (i.e. panel, beam, vertical or parabolic). Common applications include Wi-Fi/4G/5G signal distribution and amplification (signal boosters). It is a "true" 50-Ohm connector with excellent weather resistance and bandwidth capacity (10-GHz or higher), well into the microwave/satellite spectrum. Amphenol RP-TNC to Type-N (Male to Male) Cables are designed to mate equipment-mounted RP-TNC (female) external antenna jacks via coax to antenna-mounted Type-N (female) connector jacks.
