RP-SMA to Type-N Cables (Coaxial Cable with Type-N to RP-SMA Connectors)
Shop RP-SMA to Type-N RF Cable Assemblies (Coaxial Cables with RP-SMA and N Connectors) at Amphenol Cables on Demand. The Reverse Polarity SMA (RP-SMA) Connector was developed for use with the included set of antennas for 2.4-GHz and later 5-GHz Wi-Fi Routers and Access Points. Reverse Polarity connectors were a mandated by the FCC at the time to discourage the use of upgraded screw-on "high-gain" wifi antennas or the use of indoor/outdoor mounted "high-gain" antennas connected via coaxial cabling. When mounted outdoors at elevation and with gain ratings of 20dB or more, one could boost a Wi-Fi signal by 100-times.
To reverse the polarity of the connection, the RP-SMA simply reverses the standard connector pin/socket plug/receptacle arrangement of the SMA connector. In a standard SMA connector, the male "plug" connector, which is typically installed on a coaxial cable line that plugs into a device, its center pin visibly protrudes outward. SMA female "receptacle" connectors, on the equipment side, feature a recessed hole/socket to "mate" with said pin. Reverse Polarity SMA (RP-SMA) is the opposite, where the male coaxial cable "plug" is the one with the recessed hole/socket and the equipment-mounted female "receptacle" has a protruding pin.
The Type N is popular for use as a female receptacle connector installed on indoor/outdoor 50-Ohm antennas (panel, beam, vertical or parabolic). These are typically used for wifi, 4G/5G cellular and mixed broadband (wifi+cellular) signal distribution and amplification (signal boosters). It is a "true" 50-Ohm connector with excellent weather resistance and bandwidth capacity (10-GHz or higher), well into the microwave/satellite spectrum. Amphenol RP (Reverse-Polarity) SMA to N (Male to Male) Cables are designed to mate equipment-mounted RP-SMA (female) external antenna jacks via coax to antenna-mounted Type-N (female) connector jacks.
Our selection of Amphenol Type-N to Reverse-Polarity SMA (RP-SMA) Cables are shown below in multiple lengths to meet your application requirements.
